- "Naw" Monellan isn't much of a place now but you should have seen it in my young days when there was fifty men employed. They Kept three men full time trimming and cleaning the avenue and a small boy to brush up after them. Woe to the man who would have dared to break as much as a twig that size in them days and soon there wont be a twig their size left. It was the Rev. Robert Delap that owned it then but he wasn't the first of the name.Are they long here altogether?No not long, I was gardener as a young man in Robert's time and he often told me their family history.The first Delap to come to Monellan was a Colonel in the British army and he was given the estate be the "Crown". That would be over 130 years ago.
