    They got another round stone to fit into the hold.
    They then put the barley or corn into the hold and then pounded it with the round stone. Querns are not used in this district now.
    In olden times if a cake made from flour was to be got they through it a great treat.
    Rolling pins were used in this district long ago. When mother is baking a cake she puts a mark on the top of it was a knife the shape of the cross. This prevents it from rising too high in the middle and breaking round the edges.
