    was about four inches square.
    In olden times there was a large door on the house and outside that a half door. Half doors were chiefly used to keep out chickens.
    The people in olden times burned peats and fir.
    For light at night they put a big block of fir in the fire. When they went out to the out houses they lit a 'space' of fir in the fire and carried it with them. Later on they started to use candles called tallow sluts for lights.
