    His conscience never felt remorse, for crime he never knew,
    No doubt he'd be acquitted if justice got its due;
    Perhaps 'tis better as it is, the laurels on his brow.
    The blighting blasts of tyranny can never reach him now.

    He died of typhus fever arising from a cold,
    Such was the doctor's statement as in the Press we're told;
    And we, my friends, may well conclude, with firm conviction rest.
    His care within these prison wells was nothing of the best.

    Oh, what a glorious sight it was upon his funeral day,
    To see three thousand marching forth, robed all in rich array,
    Of stalwart, sturdy brave young men, who all green ribbons wore
