    often promised large sums of money but in some cases they did not get them. Stock or goods were never given. When a pair were getting married they went to the chapel or church after night. In some cases they did not want there parents or neighbors to know about them getting married. They generally walked at the weddings. A little later horses and side-cars were put on the road. There was a man named McCarron who went to Milford three times to get married. About thirty years ago the clergymen stopped marrying people after night.
