    money. They were just fed from what the people gave them which was sometimes a handful of meal or a potato. Some would sell delph and get horse-hair or rags for it. People would let them sleep on the floor and they would make a fire outside. The people gave them all they could spare. Some would stay six months in one place if they were liked. People would go to where they were staying and they would sing to them. They went round on foot. Sometimes six or seven families would go together. One family would stay in a house. Sometimes there would be eight in a family. The Doherty's stayed in Wards. On a fair day they would go and play a fiddle in the streets for a penny. There was a family-
