  1. Ye boys of the Shamrock give ear to my ditty,
    I’m sure you will say ‘tis a comical one;
    To miss such a joke would be really a pity,
    And our Irish boys are the fellows for fun.
    Those lines I intent to incline to no party
    To favour no secion in Church or in State;
    So just be so good as to give me attention
    And some laughable tricks you will hear me relate.
    When Daniel O’Connell once travelled to London
    He journeyed across as the member for Clare;
    The Cockneys all eagerly crowded around him,
    And the cheers of the Irishmen rended the air.
    Being anxious tos we the great man of the people,
    The “John Bulls” in thousands all fast gathered round;
    Some started to hiss and others to mock him,
    But the Irish Shillelaghs came ‘crack’ on their crown.
    One day through the streets ad brave Daniel was walking
    A party of Cockneys to view him they stood
