  1. “St. Brigid’s Eve”
St. Brigid’s Eve falls on the last day of January. Rushes are cut on that day and left until nightfall.
When it begins to get dark the rushes are brought in, and some one goes round the house on the outside for three times. Each time he stops at the door and says, “go on your knees and let in Brigid,” and the people in the house answer, “she is welcome.”
The rushes are then made into crosses in the form of the one given below, and a cross is hung in each room of the house.
