    At the foot of Johnny's brae,
    Near it Milford lies, like Sodom,
    Reckless of the Judgement day.
    Fain would I approach the altar,
    But my erring feet refuse,
    Far too narrow are its portals,
    For the children of the muse.
    No, I must not dare to enter,
    No, admission for me here,
    Not within its Sinners Sanctum,
    Must a wicked bard appear.
    Only through an open window,
    May I view the solemn scene,
    Dreaming dreams of dark perdition,
    And the heaven that might have been.
    Through the door way in processions
    Pass the saints in single file,
    In each heart obsession,
