  1. In olden times people ate four meals a day, breakfast, dinner, evening meal and supper.
    People went out to work about their houses, and some went for a walk before taking any breakfast so as to have an appetite for it. For their breakfast it was porridge, for their dinner it was potatoes, for their evening meal it was milk and bread, and for their supper it was porridge also. They had breakfast at eight o'clock usually. They did not dine at tables often. They sat around the fire when taking their meals. They ate oaten bread and it was set in front of the fire, on a griddle, to make ready and get hard for eating.
