  1. One day Mrs Mulholland put on her wedding-coat to go to town. Mr Ray happened to see her coming home. He said to a man standing by that, if her husband could afford to buy a seal-skin coat for his wife he could pay a few pounds extra in rent. The following year he added two pounds to the rent.
If any man had a good crop of corn or potatoes he had to pay more rent the following year.

  2. In our districts there were several landlords who owned land. Fenwick is still the local landlord. He lives in England. General Stewart of Rockhill was also a local landlord. Some years ago the Stewarts sold back the land to the people around the district.
Evictions had been carried out on this estate and the people had been planted on poorer land in this area. Their farms were used by the landlord. for his own use and the homesteads were cleared away. The Stewarts bought the estate from a former landlord. They are all dead and the Land Commission now owns their castle and lands.
