  1. Once upon a time there was a man living in our house. He went out one morning and got an axe to cut a hawthorn three convenient to the house.
A small man came to him and said- "good morning, what are you for doing to-day?" And he said, "I am going to cut this tree." Then the small man told him to make a straw rope and to leave it at the root of the tree, and if the rope was the same in the morning as he left it, he could cut the tree: So the man rose early the following morning and went to the tree and saw a small heap of ashes instead of a straw rope.
He came away and did not touch the tree. The same tree is there to this (present) day.
