  1. There was a young priest in the town-land of Barnes named Father Mac Dermott. He was ordained about a year and was home on holidays. It being the common custom of the young people to go to Lough Salt every Sunday in the summer-time, they used to come from all parts of the country on Sundays to Lough Salt. There was a marriage ceremony and Father Mac Dermott performed the ceremony. They being of different religions, the girl’s people reported this to the Bishop and the priest was sent away to an Island for penance. He was away for a long time. On a “Hallow-Eve” night the father and mother were sitting around the fire. The
