  1. The waters here contain many fresh water mussels. A fair proportion of these have pearls.
    Many strangers make a living by coming to fish for pearls in Summer. The local people never look for them though I think it may be profitable. One afternoon while bathing in Gartan Lough we opened a few dozen to pass the time.
    We found three very nice "seed" pearls and one rather good one about the size of a sweet pea seed.
    They look quite good.
