  1. There are not very many old roads in this part of the district.
There is one very old road from Letterkenny to Raphoe. It is called the Montgorry road because it runs over a high hill called Montgorry. It is supposed to have been marked out by night. They lit bon-fires on the hills tops to see to mark it out consequently it is very hilly. it is up hill and down dale.
It is still used for the people to walk into Raphoe or Letterkenny. The people who are taking beasts to the fairs in Raphoe or Letterkenny always drive them over the hill.
No one knows of anyone who was working at it. But there is a road called the Green road which goes in past Dohertys. There was a man working at it called Mr. Cavanagh of Strabane. I heard that the green road was worked by relief workers.
It is customary for the boys of this district to meet on the cross roads in the summer evenings and sometimes they play horse-shoes and tell stories.
