  1. About fifty years ago a landlady named Miss Gardiner lived in Farmhill. She was a tyrant and evicted her tenants even though they paid their high rents. She was greatly hated by the people of the countryside. She was also a drunkard.
She had at least one thousand acres of land in her estate. She had at least forty horses and an equal forty horses and an equal number of asses grazing in the woods. She had twenty-four milch cows, about forty cattle and about ten pigs. She employed about forty men and gave them one shilling and two pence a day without support. They had to do everything on the farm. She lived in a three-story house with four lines of stabling at back. The house is now the residence of the Parish Priest.
