  1. Rope-Making
About twenty years ago the making of ropes out of rushes was very common in this district. This is the way the people used make them.
When the rushes were fully-grown they were pulled tied into sheaves, and beetled. Then they were left out to dry for a week. They were brought in and left in a dry place to season for about a fortnight.
Then the rushes were ready for use and they were made into ropes by means of the hands by platting them in the ordinary way.
These ropes were inexpensive, lasted a long time, and were much used for tying sheep and donkeys.
