  1. Most marriages take place between Christmas and Shrove Tuesday. Tuesday is said to be a lucky day to get married and the thirteenth of any month is said to be an unlucky day. If the thirteeth of the month falls on Tuesday it is said to be an unlucky day.
    Long ago matches were made in our district in the following way:-
    If the boy and girl were well acquainted they would consult their own parents on their intended marriage.
    But if they do not know each other the boy send a friend of his to the
