  1. Gapes can be cured in the following way:-
    Get a long horse hair and twist the two ends together, so as to form a loop in the middle. Then take the bird in the left hand and with the right open its mouth. As it breaths, the opening to the windpipe will be seen at the base of the tongue. Here insert the loop of hair, twist it round several times and then withdraw. One or more worms will probably be found clinging to it If all the worms are not removed in this way, their hold of the windpipe will be loosened and they will likely be coughed up afterwards.
