    night he removed his boots and lay down on the highway.
    Next morning his friend Carolan came along and found him. Dunphy addressed Carolan thus
    The vale of Avoca Tom Moore says is sweet
    But if he was here without boots on his feet
    Lying on the road without blanket or sheet,
    He wouldn't give a jot where the bright waters meet.
    Carolan had a great respect for Moore and his melodies and being somewhat nettled he quickly retorted
    You've only a mixture of hayseeds and sand.
    You haven't got grammar nor words at command
    And the few words you have you can't speak them right
    You can only snarl and struggle to bite.
