There is a pot of gold hidden under a holly tree on an island in Gartan Lake. This now belongs to Mr. Forrest and is called Laboured Island. It is believed that it was Godfrey O'Donnell put it there, as he had a large castle on this island.
The ruins are not to be seen as the stones were taken for the building of Lough Veagh House which belongs to Mrs. Johnson. Nobody ever tried to get the gold, because it is said that if he does, the water will rise and drown him before he gets out of the island.
