- St. Columba who was born in the townland of Lackoo, in the parish of Gartan, in the year five hundred and twenty one, was one day on a mountain named Cruckcraw in Glendowan, and he was being pursued by enemies. He stepped from this hill close to where Churchill Barrack now stands a distance of about two miles. The print of his foot is still to be seen on a large stone on the side of the road, and as the people are passing it, they kneel down and say prayers. This story was told to me by my father, Matthew Buchanan.
