  1. A king was in Ireland. He got married. When the boy was a year old his mother took very ill. She got worse and she sent for Fionn Mc Cumhaill. She asked him to take the boy and rear him if she would die until he would be 21 years and then he would reign as king.
    She died and Fionn took the boy and the king went to the Far East and married a sister of the High King (Árd Ri na Croise) she told him that this wee boy would become king when 21 years of age.
    She sent for Fionn. They had a great day drinking and sporting. It continued for a couple of days. Says the King’s wife to Fionn “What do you think if we would play a game of cards. Fionn consents. “Whatever I tell you do it” says she to Fionn “If I get the 1st three games, and whatever you tell me I’ll have to do it or I’ll be enchanted. (If you get the 1st three games.
    She got the 1st three games on Fionn. You’ll have to bring (Árd Rí na Croise’s head to me and give it to me in my arms” says she to Fionn.
    “We’ll play three more” says Fionn. Fionn got these three games. “You’ll have to go up on the top of the tower with a pot of water and a sheaf of corn and you aren’t to eat meat only what will
