- My home is in the townland of Ballyconley The Parish of Conwall- The Barony of Ballymacool, Co. Donegal. There are five houses in it now. One slate roofed house and four thatched roofed houses. There are three families of “Crerons”.
In olden times a man named Connell lived in it and from this man the townland got its name. There are two men over seventy in it. They have no Irish. They aren’t able to tell stories but they have old songs. James Creron, Ballyconley. Newmills Letterkenny John “ “ “ “
Yes there are old wall-steads in it.
In olden times a good many people went to America from it. Some of them came back but a great many made their homes beyond the sea.
The townland was never famous in song. But it was said. That Colmcille was going over a hill on the opposite to Ballyconley and he looked around and said. “Ballyconley will never be without a drunk man or white horse”.
The land is fertile. (the majority). There are a few acres under furze. There are shrubbries in it Roughan Burn runs along one side of the townland(continues on next page)
