An old custom is to make rush crosses on Saint Bridget's Eve. On New Years eve the people always take in the water early because it is said it is changed into wine at twelve o'clock. This concerns the Baptism of Our Lord. In those days the child was supposed to be cut on the forehead with a knife made of stone. So it is said that on the day Our Lord was baptised the water turned to wine.
On Shrove Tuesday pan cakes were made with a wedding ring in them and whoever would get it was the first to get married. It was said that the people of olden days would not look in the glass or comb their hair on either of the following days, in Lent, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Spy Wednesday.
