  1. In olden times many people in this district made poitin. Great care had to be taken while making it, as police were everywhere on the trail of poitin makers. In those days police were known to the poitin makers as "Revenue Men". Any person found making poitin was taken to court and heavy fines were imposed. Often, indeed, the still was seized and destroyed. Many stories are yet told about poitin and this is one of them.
    Once upon a time a man from the west of Ireland was working in this district. One day he decided to go and see his aged father. This young man was a poitin maker and knowing his father was very fond of it he filled a bottle and put it into his bag. then he set off.
