of women and the crying of infants was a pitiable sight, and we are told that there were more infants and cradles in the old building than is presently in the whole parish. From this statement we could assume that it was sometime before the Education Act of 1832 or Emancipation in 1829 because at that time there was a very big population in Ireland.
When General Tradenic came to the district as landlord he held a huge meeting over somewhere in Kilraine. Now the meeting was more like a party. He took to the meeting with him several kegs of whiskey with which he put most or all of the householders drunk. He then in their good nature got them to sign an agreement to pay rent yearly, and so Glenconwell ever after had to pay rent like other places. Spring wells sprang up under the rocks where Conaill's cow left the track of her foot, and supply local needs to the present.
