  1. It was the custom in the olden times, when all the neighbours from around a district were invited to a christening, to bring something to help out with the feast. One day Fionn Mac Cool and his wife were invited to a christening. The day of the christening Fionn's wife fell ill and was unable to go. She made a measgán of butter to send with Fionn. When Fionn was getting ready to go to the christening he never thought about the butter and went away without it. His wife was a very strong woman and so she lifted the butter up and flung it so far that it landed at Fionn's feet and then turned into a stone. When Fionn was returning home from the christening he saw the stone and taking it up in his hand he threw
