  1. About 89 years ago a farmer named Jack Kelly was digging near the sigh of Ballymagroarty Abbey and came upon a square-shaped bell, which very probably was used in the monastery.
    This antique came into the hands of Major Hamilton of Brownhall, in whose possession (or rather than of his son) it still remains, although many tempting offers have been made by antiquarians for its release.
    In the immediate vicinity of the site, we are told that a man while [f ?] ploughing his field came upon a few stone steps which it is believed led to a subterranean passage. Local stories have it that the passage plied between the abbey and Racoo.
