  1. Young boys and girls put an apple or a nut into a dish of water and try to take it out with their mouths. They get three bowls, one with clean water and one with dirty water, and one with no water in it. One girl is blind-folded and if she puts her hand into the one that the clean water is in she will get a clean man. If she puts it into the dirty water she will get a dirty man. If she puts her hand into the bowl with no water in it she will get no man.
In days gone by the young boys went out to steal cabbages and turnips and hang them over doors.
