- A grown up girl puts an apple before the mirror and then she lights a candle. She combs her hair and while she is combing, she is supposed to see her future husband peeping over her shoulder.
- Young boys and girls burn two nuts to see which of them will be married first. They throw apple seeds into the fire. If a slight report [?] is heard it indicates that a lover shall be true. People lock their gates afraid of their turnips and cabbage being stolen on Hallow Eve night. Young boys go out to see if they can get turnips, to tie on the latch of people’s door’s [sic]. They put a stick up against the door of a person’s house and when the man of the house comes out in the morning the stick falls in and scares the man(continues on next page)
