    Bernard Quinn, Ballinakillew lifted a barrel of oil 3 ½ cwt and put it on a stand about 8 ins. high.
    Big Johnny Gallagher carried a large ladder 14 rungs from here to seven miles below below Donegal.
    James Tinmey of the Augh carried a 2 cwt bag of meal from Collin’s shop Laghey to his home a distance of four miles.

    Candles were made in this district over eighty years ago. First they peeled freen rushes, then they tied them up and left them over the fire to dry. Then they dipped them in melted tallow or fat.
    Tallow Candles

    Dip candles were made by dipping them in tallow, and mould candles were made by a mould.

    Soap was made from the tallow or fat of a cow or any animal killed.
