  1. Long ago in this district the old people used to have their own cures for certain diseased. They used to put horses winkers on the people and head them to a spaw [sic.] well and make them take three sips of the water in the name of the father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. This is said to be a cure for mumps.
    To cure jaundice they used to gather herbs and mix them together. They used to boilthis and put it into a bottle and give it to the ailing person.
    White note-paper boiled on sweet milk was said to be a cure for nose-bleeding.
