(continued from previous page)of old dead horses and cattle. Then they used to send them away to get tanned. When they would get them back they would get some halfsole leather and make half soles. Then they used to make wax-end and sew them. When they would have them sewn they used to put on the half soles and put tips on the heels. It is said that these shoes could do any one two years.

About 60 years ago there was a smith called Patrick Kenny who lived in the parish of Inver. This man did a lot of great deeds. One day a man came to him with a horse to get him shod. This horse was very old and when he came in to the forge he lay down and they could not get him up. The smith got his arms round him and left him outside the door.
