    Mass was celebrated, before the first Ballyshannon church was built. There is also a little well at the top of Cashelard mountain just beside the lough – the well is called St. Columba’s Well, and the lough “St. Columba’s Lough” or “Lough Columbkille”.

  2. There is a holy well known as Columbkille’s Well in Ballymagroarty. At the time of the plantation a monastery that was in Ballymagroarty was destroyed and the holy monks banished. The land was then given to an English family named Morrow. There was a field in this land in which there was a very nice little well. The water in this well was the best water to be found around, and nobody knew of this well only the owner of the land. Years past and nobody ever knew of this wonderful well and the owner never used the water, because he had heard it secretly that this well was blessed
