    About a century ago there lived in Ballyshannon a family who were noted for their wit and humour.

    having a blazing fire when his son arrived for supper.
    If the father was cunning and clever the son possessed the gift of humour, to which he often gave a poetical turn.
    When he entered the kitchen door he immediately upbraided the father for what he termed awful breach of the law, and pointed out the danger the father ran in stealing his neighbours goods. He ended the lecture to his father by pointing a finger at him and spoke the following lines-
    “O don’t I see plainly, you’re
    burning the straw,
    And I’ll make George Clarke enter
    you at the law,
    When you go to the court, sure
    you cannot deny,
    That you’re the old villain that
    stripped the pig-sty.
