There was a woman named Caitlín who was coming from Belleek direction towards Ballyshannon with two creels of turf on a horse’s back. She herself was also on the horse’s back. As she neared the place where Caitlín’s Falls is a hunters horn was blown on the other side of the river. When the horse heard the horn, being an old hunting horse it raced madly towards the river. The creels fell off but Catlín held on. The horse jumped the river successfully and joined in the hunt. After that the falls were called “Caitlín’s Falls”.
