  1. (1) Jack Dickson:
    . He was a servant of General Folliot and he lived with him in Wardtown Castle. He could jump over a five foot ditch into a cellar eleven feet below the top of the ditch. He was also a great hurler and runner.
    Once he was picked to play hurling for Kilbarron v. Innismacsaint. General Folliot, who owned most of Innismacsaint, wanted Innismacsaint to win. To do this he sent Jack, the best player in the district, to Dublin with a letter which was to be answered. Jack had only two days to get to Dublin and back but he returned in time for the match and had the answer for the enraged General.
    The match, which was played on the present rifle-range at Finner, was very fast. Once Jack hit the ball from his own goals and ran down to the Innismacsaint goals and pulled on the ball and scored. Kilbarron won the match.
    After the match the angry General, who was on horseback, told Jack that he would shoot him
