  1. In my grandfather's time some 50 years ago hunting was a favourite pastime with all classes. There were several packs of beagles in this district. When the foxes were gone they used to hunt the hare and along with the horses hundreds of people followed on foot. On a place above the Abbey called the Acres was a favourite spot for hunting.
