A great big turf fire was laid down in the open, about six feet in diameter and two feet high. The shoeing was heated in this fire. When ready the shoeing was taken from the fire and placed immediately on the wheel which was lying flat on the ground. A heavy douching of cold water caused the iron to contract, and prevented the wheel from going on fire. When fully cooled the shoeing fitted perfectly on the wheel.
