  1. The McMahons - ancient owners of the lands around Castleblayney. These lands were in the occupation of the Blayney family. The last Lord Blayney died in or around 1854 and the lands (Hope Estate) passed to Lord Hope, brother of the Duke of Newcastle in whose possession Castleblayney Demesne remains at present.
