  1. It was Christmas Eve in the year 1895. The Palme was tossed and rolled from side to side as it made its way along by Merrion Strand. Suddenly it gave a terrific lurch as it grounded against some unseen rocks. Next moment all was confused. Women and children screamed, men tried in vain to soothe them.
