  1. The old school for Boys and Girls was in The Hollow, on the twelfth lock road. The first school master was Mr. Finnegan and then Mr. Collins and Mr. Mullarney, Mr. Toole, Mr. Joseph, Mr. Flannagan, Mr. Delaney, Mr. Kelly and last of all came Mr. Rice.
    There were no schools on Chapel Hill as there are now, but the priests house, the Chapel and Mr. George Thornberrys's house in 1840. After another few years 1867, the convent was built and the first nun to die there was Sr. M. Thomas in 1881. I was the George Thornberry who built the convent cemetery. Mr Quigley gave the land. The time this nun was buried the snow fell for seven weeks without a stop, so that houses were almost covered.
    The following poem was taught by Mr. Joseph in the old school house in The Hollow.
    "The little door mouse is tawny red,
    He makes against Winter a nice snug bed, He makes his bed in a mossy bank, Where the plants in Summer grow tall and rank,
