    They had spent a full fortnight in the city. They had seen most of the sights completed many rounds of shopping, been dined and wined by old friends and met some new acquaintances. And now - although one scarcely admitted it to the other - farm and garden drew all their thoughts and inclinations back to the country and to their home, where the trees drooped low across the avenue and the silver suir flowed lazily beside the tangled light and shadow of the lawn.
