Hermitage House the next residence of importance was erected about the year 1700 and was occupied by Mayor General Robert Naper, an early branch of the present Naper family of Lough Crew County Meath. About 1740 the place passed to the Hon. Robert Butler who we are informed had the misfortune to contract smallpox. Sir LucIus O'Brien (Lord Inchiquin) became the owner about 1780 and the Hon James Fitzgerald in 1797. In 1833 Robert Brennan was in occupation and Lord Sherbourne the owner sold "town, lands tenement
