- My Home DistrictI live in the townland of Town Parks in the parish of Swords in the barony of Nethercross. In the parish of Sword there are (3) three hundred families, the population is about one thousand two hundred. The names that are commonest in Swords, are O'Toole, Savage and Donnelly. Most of the houses in Swords are of modern design although there are a few old type houses. The houses are slated or tiled with an odd one thatched. There are many old people in Swords but none of them speak Irish. Long ago Swords was a very large town , and there were many more houses in it that there now. There are not more than about half-a-dozen ruined houses in Swords. The land around is flat, rich and sandy. There are two streams the Bell and the Broad-meadow water, both rise in Co Meath and flow in an easterly direction until they join and enter the sea at Swords.Written by:- John De Largy, Swords
