  1. (continued from previous page)
Long ago on May morning the people rose at dawn and churned their butter and made it without salt. This butter was called "May Butter" and the people believed it to be a great cure for many things.
One time John Mc Dermot employed his work-men to level the two moats on knock-Brack. When they did so they spread the clay out on the grass in order to make it grow. They said that the moats were of no use and that they were in the way. The next morning when they went up to the field they were very much frightened to see all the clay which they had spread on the grass back again where the moats had been. Again they levelled the moats and the same thing happened. Then they knew that if they levelled it something might happen them and they also knew that the fairies had enchanted the moats.
