Long ago the people did not believe in buying stockings or socks. The women knitted them for every member of the family. There are not many spinning wheels in the district at present, But if you travelled through the country you might catch a glimpse of one or two, thrown in some old shed to go rotten and rusty. If your machine was dirty long ago it was considered an old one.
