  1. it is a custom with some of the people in Balbriggan when the fire does not light up quickly to say "Theresa Higginson Spouse of the Crucified pray for us"
It is also a custom every night before getting into bed to make the letters I.N.R.I on their forehead saying "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, preserve me from a sudden and unprovided death. Amen" Another prayer is "God bless me and make me a true and faithful servant to my life's end. Amen"
Also "Bless me, O Lord defend and govern me after this short and miserable pilgrimage, O Lord, bring me to everlasting happiness. Amen"
