Old and young celebrate the event and are very happy.
About twenty years ago or more “straw-boys” came to the bride's home on the day or night of the wedding. Those we a crowd of local young men disguised in straw and old clothes. They were always welcome into the house where they sang and danced. They got refreshment then and they drank a toast to the young couple. This old custom has died out completely in Balbriggan and the surrounding districts.
